B-Man’s Teriyaki & Burgers: Affordable array of quality fast food

B-Man’s Teriyaki & Burgers has satisfied for over 13 years a craving for quality Japanese American fast food, marked by an extensive menu and owner chef Byron Takeuchi’s recipes and signature homemade teriyaki sauce sweetened with real honey. According to Takeuchi, B-Man’s began with the family-owned Spike’s Teriyaki Bowl that had launched 13 Southern California locations, all of which have closed. Takeuchi started over in 1999 determined to make “teriyaki the way it should bee,” the menu mantra.

Success has come – without the help of a website or social media – by word of mouth and regulars (including the gym crowd, professionals, and students from neighboring schools) that frequent the busy original Pasadena location. What began as a little known establishment has also taken residence in Azusa and Duarte, all serving the same affordable nosh a la carte or in winning combinations.

Try the ABC burger (with avocado, B-Man’s teriyaki sauce, Swiss or American cheese, grilled onions on request) or teriyaki chicken, beef, or veggie bowls, chicken curry, or chicken chili smothered on steamed white or brown rice, with tsukemono cabbage or steamed veggies. Savor the generous portions of curry and chili over golden brown crinkle cut fries. Craving fish? Order the charbroiled, soy-sesame marinated mahi mahi, a permanent menu item due to popularity. Whet an appetite for snacks with a variety of white or brown rice musubis (Spam, Portuguese sausage, teriyaki chicken) and charbroiled, marinated tofu skewers. In the mood for something sweet? Shave ice flavors include honeydew melon, passion orange, and pina colada. ($1.75 for one flavor, $1.95 for two; add sweet milk for $0.50) Once the cool weather hits, the seasonal udon noodles in soup will make a menu appearance again. At B-Man’s, teriyaki – and more – is done the way it should be.
